Welcome to my personal research\/professional activities site.<\/p>\n

I work in and around logic,  artificial intelligence, and sustainable development (i.e., Green economics). Have solid creds in all three. As seemingly disjoint as these three areas may  appear, they are, to me at least, intimately connected. Sustainability is the goal.  Artificial intelligence is the required information technology.  And logic is the foundation.<\/p>\n

Erik has over 20 years experience creating state-of-the-art analytical software technologies and the business applications they support with an emphasis on intelligent systems and socio-economic-environmental models. He has been sought after by government agencies  to help with complex socio-economic-environmental modeling issues. Three of the companies he co-founded (Power Thinking Tools, Dimensional Systems, DSSlab) were acquired in unsolicited acquisitions.<\/p>\n

He has chaired a variety of industry organizations including the OLAP Council and the Analytical Solutions Forum.   He has been an invited speaker, keynote or chair at many conferences and workshops.  And he is the author of numerous publications for both scholarly and trade journals. He wrote the Decision Support Column for Database Programming & Design, and the Analytical Solutions column for Intelligent Enterprise. He is also the author or co-author of several text books including OLAP Solutions: Building Multidimensional Information Systems 2nd edition, which is used around the world in both graduate computer science and MBA programs.<\/p>\n

Specialties\/interests: OLAP, natural language processing, combinatory ontological grammars, information extraction,  data  fusion, integration of unstructured and structured data, semantic technologies, visualization, pattern recognition, foundations of logic, language and mathematics, and socio economic environmental models<\/p>\n

He is currently a consulting CTO<\/a> to a start-up focused on producing a new generation of sustainable development indicators.  And he is working on a new patent-protected AI start-up which is  currently in stealth mode. His goal is to build a smart information grid<\/a> for sustainable development.<\/p>\n
